Fix You

“No! Please, You can’t! Please, that’s my brain!” he heard the words, desperation thick in them being torn from his lips.

“It’ll be much better if you don’t struggle, Ambrose.” A cold voice cooed. “If you struggle, they may not leave even half your brain.”

Princess Azkadellia awoke from her dream with a start, bolting upright from her bed. Her raven hair hung free, and tangled, over her back and shoulders. Her silken nightdress clung tightly to her skin by sweat. The pale Princess sat still and breathing heavy for several moments before realizing she was not alone in her bedroom.

“Rise and shine!” A cheery voice called and pulled back the heavy curtains to send sunlight pouring into the room. DG stood by her sister’s bedside, balancing a tray in one hand and a pitcher of juice in the other. She placed them on her sister’s end table, then stood back and waited.

“DG?” The older princess blinked slightly.  It wasn’t strange to find the younger girl in her room, with breakfast. Though it had only been a month since Azkadellia’s release, the pair had begun rebuilding their friendship, though more than once a day, the older girl begged her sister for forgiveness for the pain she had caused. DG however, had claimed there was no need for forgiveness, that she hadn‘t been herself when she was doing those terrible things.

“So, good dreams or nightmares?” DG asked, sitting at the foot of Azkadellia’s bed.

“Memories…Bad ones.” She admitted, then shook her head as she began her breakfast. “But it’s too early to dwell on dreams. Bad ones, anyway. How did you sleep?”

A blush crawled onto DG’s pale cheeks and she smiled a bit. “I slept fine.”

That made her sister smile. “Dreams about a certain tin man?”

“Az!” She then stopped and bit her lip. “Is it that obvious?”

Azkadellia nodded some. “A certain Princess should tell a certain ex-cop how she feels and warm that cold heart of his.”

“Were you ever in love? Before the witch took over?”

“DG-” She warned. It was better if the younger Princess didn’t concern herself with this.

"Az, who was he? You've peaked my interest, it's your own fault if I'm being nosy. Is he alive or dead?" The other girl asked excitedly, causing Azkadellia to sigh.

“He’s alive. He doesn’t remember it though and it’s her-it’s all my fault, Deej.” She said and looked away from her sister to stare out the window, at the sun shining over the O.Z.

“Glitch? You were in love with Glitch?”

Az nodded. Of all the scars she had left on the O.Z, the one she left on him were the worst. So much for the most celebrated being the rehabilitated.

“What do you mean you need more time?” a friendly, yet frustrated voice demanded of a nurse from the palace infirmary.

“Please, Sir Ambrose, it’s a very complicated surgery...” the poor nurse replied, looking down at her feet. The royal half-brained advisor had no more interest in the nurse’s excuses and stomped away from her, his direction aimed for the Princesses he saw coming down the hall.

“No luck yet, huh?” DG asked, frowning some. She knew how much Glitch longed for his brain back and hoped that maybe with his mind restored, it would raise Azkadellia’s slow recovery and stop her anger at herself.

“Nothing.” He replied with a small shake of his head. Then he paused. “Good morning DG, your highness,” He bowed a bit and it did make her sister smile, if it was small. For all the things she had done to him, he seemed to have a sense of humor and a smile for the sisters when he saw them.

“Good morning.” She greeted, causing DG to look between the two.

“You know, I think I have something to take care of.” She winked at her sister. “I’ll see you both later.” The blue eyed princess placed her eyes on her friend. “Give it time, you’ll get the rest of your brain back.”

“I hope so.” He said and she turned to go, leaving the pair on their own.

“Are you alright?” she asked hesitantly. Of course he wasn’t alright! He was missing half his brain! A zipper ran over his head!

“Coping.” He replied stiffly, standing straight in her presence. “And you?”

“It’s hard getting used to being me again.” She admitted and he smiled.

“Ain’t that the truth.” He said, then paused. “I think being here is better for me though. I’m…Remembering a bit more.”

Azkadellia sighed and looked at him squarely. “Gli-Ambrose, I am so sorry.” She said and frowned, looking directly at the wicked zipper that kept his head closed. “So sorry.”

“No,” he said quickly, cupping her cheek and brushing away a tear with his thumb. His eyes met her dark, tear filled ones. “This is not your fault.”

“I could have fought harder-”

“Coulda, shoulda, woulda.” He said. “What’s done is done and dwelling about it won’t help anyone. Best we can do is try to start fresh.” He then smiled to himself. “Hey! I am smart!”

That made her laugh. “Thank you, Ambrose. I’ve missed you.”

“I missed you too, Azka-D.” He moved his hand from her cheek to clasp her hands, then moved them fast. “Excuse me, Princess. Forgive me for being so bold.”

She took them in her hands again. “It’s alright.” She reassured him. “I had almost forgotten you used to call me that.”

“Well, maybe we both need help remembering then. Maybe we can…Fix each other?”

“Glitch, I promise I will do everything in my power to fix you.”
Just a little something I wrote in class. I hould have been paying attention, but got bored fast. So I jotted this out and it's a bit rushed. That means it will probably suck and there will be mistakes, but since 'So Close and Still So Far' was such a hit, I thought I'd take a bash at it. (I should be working on my DG/Cain idea, but my brain won't focus!)

You could say this takes place before 'So Close and Still So Far'.

Hm. Az/Glitch isn't really my thing, but this was cute. I like it.
